Product Description

Brown WWII Government A-2 Jacket

Easily one of the most iconic flight jackets ever worn, the World War II government-issued Type A-2 horsehide flight jacket has become as legendary as the Army's pilots and aircrews. American air force who wore them during World War II. The origins of the A-2 date back several years before the war even began, when it was introduced in 1931 to replace the A-1 flight jacket previously worn by aviators in the 1920s. -2 was produced in large quantities until 1943 and became a prized possession for the pilots and crews who carried them even after the war ended. The stories the jackets could tell were often expressed in the way pilots and crew personalized their A-2s with unit patches, and more often with painted illustrations, unique to each wearer, or reflecting the nose of their plane. The Cockpit USA WWII Government Issue A-2 is a tribute to this legendary American jacket. This A-2 Brown Leather Flight Jacket is finely crafted from full grain horsehide, finished in Seal Brown or our Dark Brown Mahogany. Tanned to resemble a new, out-of-the-box look, horsehide will break down over time, revealing the leather's unique grain and a classic worn patina. We also took special care in adapting this A-2 to fit more closely to today's body size and build. All of these features make this the perfect jacket for everyday wear while maintaining the classic A-2 shape and look. Whether you wear it while piloting a vintage Warbird, hitting the road on your bike, or simply pairing it with jeans and a t-shirt for a classic, rugged look, this USA WWII A-2 Cockpit Jacket is an American classic and is proudly handcrafted in the USA.

Caring for your leather

This is a horsehide jacket.

Horsehide is a fairly rare hide. It is found, most of the time, on jacket models exclusively made in the United States such as the historic Schott N.Y.C.

Very thick and above all very resistant, the horse leather models are easy to maintain.

We will still advise you to waterproof them, like any leather jacket, either upon purchase and then at least once every year.

For the purchase of your products maintenance, you can go to our maintenance section.

In all cases, remember to always test the application of a maintenance product on a non-visible surface of your product. Certain finishes or leather treatments may react differently from one product to another.
