It often has a shiny or greasy appearance, this helps it avoid aging too quickly.
The more your leather is fat, the more you will need to think about waterproofing it, especially before even wearing it the first time! Oily buffalo leather can actually rub off on your clothes if you don't treat it first. Waterproofing helps prevent this phenomenon.
