155° Gruppo: A versatile squadron
The 155° Gruppo of the Italian Aeronautica Militare was established in January 1941. Active during World War II, it was deployed in North Africa, Sardinia, and Sicily. After the war, it changed bases and aircraft several times before joining the 50° Stormo at San Damiano. In 1984, it adopted the Panavia Tornado and played a key role in major operations such as the Gulf War and missions in the former Yugoslavia. Since 1995, it has specialized in electronic warfare. A NATO Tigers member since 1998, the 155° Gruppo is nicknamed “Black Panthers” in homage to its distinctive emblem.
